CONCEPT: Google translators make errors and have bugs. This can be comical and also troublesome. The interactive installation “Двойной 00 Double 00” investigates this phenomenon. The scene is set for a bumbling spy to transmit incorrect communications. The work also has a performance element which can be expanded in the festival as desired.
ART: Misprint Thursday has been working in many ways on the aspect of communication. In her work she explores these ideas regularly. One of her newest sculptures in Second Life is a work which responds to her calling the prim on the telephone. The way it works is she calls her Google voice mail at 1-OH-MY-BOOBS-0 in New York. She leaves a message for her art. Google then translates the message into text. The text gets sent to the prim in Second Life. The sculpture responds to key words in the text and creates visual reactions.
PERFORMANCE: The piece can be rezzed in a gallery as a stand alone visual work. It can also be integrated into performance which can be projected into a gallery. There is opportunity for people in the gallery to act also as performers if artists wish to collaborate. The performance would consist of the avatar Misprint Thursday, dressed as a spy exploring these works. The real person behind Misprint would call the google voice line but it would be heard in voice in Second Life live. The words would then be sent to the prim. It is then that the audience sees the translation and how it gets confused with what is actually spoken. The sculpture reacts visually to the text as it arrives. Others can call the phone as well to create performance and make the sculpture go.
RELATION TO THE THEME: The relation to the theme is that the google voice to text translations are buggy. They do not work properly. This is how the work fits with the theme house bugs.
